EVROS
The coastline of Evros Prefecture resembles an enchanting blue strip of sea, from Mesimvria and Makri beaches to Alexandroupoli: Bustling resorts, hotels and organized camps, magnificent beaches and seafood taverns.
The Evros River flows peacefully on the border with Turkey, ending up in the Aegean Sea. The famous Evros Delta lies in the region. Its lagoons are home to an astonishing variety of more than 350 plant species, 46 fish species, 21 reptile and 40 mammal species.
The Forest of Dadia nature reserve acts as a cradle of life for rare predatory birds.
The municipalities of Feres, Didimoticho, Soufli and Orestiada, together with small picturesque villages dot the landscape in an area full of green, cultivated fields.
From the port of Alexandroupoli one can reach the northernmost island of the Aegean Sea, the green-clad island of Samothraki.
The Evros Prefecture lies in an area which borders with Bulgaria on the north-northwest, with Turkey on the east, with the Rodopi Prefecture on the west and is washed by the Aegean Sea on the south.
